The Ultimate Self-Care Combo: Journaling and Planting

When life is busy and you’re feeling a little out of sorts, take a break from the chaos by curling up with a journal, and some plants.

When you journal, you are in a place of solace and rest, where you can get clear on what you need to be doing. Writing in nature is becoming a popular habit for getting thoughts and emotions out of our heads and onto paper, or any other medium.

We're grateful for the opportunity to get to know one of the most inspiring journaling content creators, Ting.

Ting is a self-taught part-time content creator who rediscovered her passion for art in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ting uses bullet journaling as her primary avenue to explore her love for art, creativity and all things stationery. Bullet journaling is a gift that keeps on giving - it helps Ting organize her life, document her memories, express her creativity and allows her to inspire others. :)

1. Why did you call your brand "Positive Thoughts"?

This leads me back to when I first rediscovered my passion for art during the Covid-19 pandemic. Most of the world was very concerned, saddened and pessimistic at that time and I thought some positivity for myself and my audience would be beneficial to our mental health. That's when I decided positive thoughts would be a great name to use as a constant reminder that we should think positively to lead a positive and happy life.

2. When did you start journaling & drawing, and what inspired you to get started?

I have always had a passion for drawing ever since I was young but took a pause during my adulthood. My passion was reignited during the pandemic in 2020 when everyone was in lockdown mode and looking for a new hobby.

3. What is your all-time fave drawing and why?

My favourite drawings are my tutorials where I demonstrate step-by-step how to easily draw something. My followers love these because they find my instructions to be very easy to follow. They often send me their recreation and it makes me so happy to see them. If you want to get started and follow along, you can find the playlist of my tutorials here.

4. What is your advice for people who want to start journaling?

In my early days, I put together a list of my top 9 bujo 101 tips and I drew them out in quotes. You can see the details on my Instagram page under my guides here:

5. When did you first develop your love for plants?

I first developed my love for plants after I started drawing them more! My Instagram account mainly focuses on bullet journaling but also I dedicate a lot of my time to floral and plant drawings. In addition, every other month, my theme would center around flowers or plants. The more I drew them, the more I developed an appreciation for how beautiful plants are and how it makes me happy just by looking at them! Many studies also support the fact that having plants in your environment makes you happier, more positive and more relaxed. The benefits of plants are endless.

6. What is your current favourite plant and why?

This is a really tough question because I love so many different plants at the moment. If I have to pick one favourite plant, it would have to be a Monstera. The Monstera has a very unique look with a very distinctive leaf formation that creates an aesthetic look in my house and in my bullet journal! It is definitely a statement plant no matter where it is!
