Monstera Adansonii Care Guide

Monstera Adansonii Care Guide

Monstera adansonii, also known as the Swiss cheese plant, is a stunning tropical houseplant that is an easy care addition to your collection. They get the nickname from the heart-shaped leaves that develop holes (“fenestration”) just like Swiss cheese!

Other names for the Monstera adansonii:

  • Adanson's Monstera
  • Monkey Mask Monstera
  • Swiss Cheese Plant

You can train your Swiss cheese plant to climb and vine along a moss stick, a bamboo pole, or along a shelf, and also look great hanging from a higher surface. With the right care, you can have a thriving and beautiful Monstera adansonii.

Check out these tips to care for your Monstera adansonii:

Light

Thrives in bright indirect light or partial shade. Avoid direct, intense sunlight if possible.

Soil

Use a well draining potting soil that includes peat moss, or add it into your mix to lower the pH.

Temperature and Humidity

Create a humid environment for your Swiss cheese plant with a humidifier or keep close to the bathroom. Supplement the moisture by misting the plant throughout the week. Keep the space at a comfortable temperature or warmer and avoid cold drafts.

Water

Consistently keep the soil moist without overwatering--to achieve this, water when the top 1 inch of the soil has dried out.
