Fleur & Co

The Elephant Ear Plant or Colocasia is a tropical plant grown from tubers or from rooted plants. They have very large heart-shaped leaves borne on 2 to 3 foot (61-91 cm.) petiole or leaf stalks. The colours of the foliage may be anywhere from purplish-black, green, or green/white variegated. Plant Size Medium: 5 inch standard nursery pot Light Indoors provide as much light as possible. Good strong light is important to produce strong stems to hold up the large elephant ear leaves. Too much sunlight can burn the leaves, while too little sunlight can cause yellowing. Water When growing elephant ears, remember they crave water. They are a swamp plant that develops a good, hardy, root system underwater. Plant Specific Care Being a fast grower, elephant ear plants are also heavy feeders. They can be feed at every watering and responds well to foliar fertilizers and slow-release fertilizers but they need to be high in nitrogen. Using a room humidifier and/ or a wet pebble tray and misting the leaves regularly with room-temperature water will, however, keep it quite happy.  Pet-Friendly Plant No.
